Get in touch
TODO — a contact address. Apple checks this page before the app can be submitted, and a support page with no way to reach anybody is not one. Set SUPPORT_EMAIL in build/pages.py and in AppInfo.swift, then run the build again.
Replies come from one person, not a support desk, and may take a few days. Everything gets read.
How do I restore my purchases?
Tap any locked sea and choose Restore purchases at the foot of the card. No account is needed — your purchases belong to your Apple Account, and Abyssa asks Apple rather than you. It works on a new device, after reinstalling, and after erasing the app entirely.
I bought a sea and it has not appeared
Try Restore purchases first: if the payment went through, that brings it back within a few seconds. If it does not, check that the Apple Account signed in on the device is the one that made the purchase — buying on one account and playing on another is the usual cause. Nothing is ever charged twice: if you already own two seas separately, the bundle stops being offered. If it is still missing, write, and include the date of purchase.
Does my progress sync between devices?
Not in this version. Which plates you have finished lives on the device and does not travel. Purchases do — they belong to your Apple Account and restore anywhere.
Can I play without an internet connection?
Yes, entirely. The only thing that needs a connection is buying or restoring a sea. Everything else — every plate, every text, both ways of playing — works with the device in airplane mode.
Will there be more species?
One is written and waiting for its illustration, which would make the Trenches complete. Beyond that: perhaps, but nothing is promised. What you buy is what is there on the day you buy it.
How do I turn off the sound or the motion?
Open the menu on any plate and choose Settings. Sound, music and its level, haptics and reduced motion are all there, and each takes effect as you set it. Abyssa also follows the system's own Reduce Motion setting without being asked; the setting in the app can only add calm, never remove it.
Is the artwork real historical illustration?
The illustrations in Abyssa are AI-assisted works, made for this game in the spirit of nineteenth-century natural history plates. They are not reproductions of historical artefacts, and they are not scans or copies of any existing work.
Requirements
iPhone or iPad, iOS 18 or later.
Playing without sight
Both ways of playing can be completed entirely with VoiceOver, including placing every piece — there is a rotor for the loose cuttings, and the caption mode was built to be played by ear. Dynamic Type runs to the accessibility sizes and Reduce Motion is honoured throughout. If something is unreachable, that is a bug and worth writing about.
